Mustang News has been the premier news source available on the Cal Poly campus since 1916. The editorial and reporting staff are committed to providing the best possible coverage of campus and community news to Cal Poly’s faculty, staff and students, as well as residents of the city of San Luis Obispo.
We are an integrated, student-run newsroom, and tell stories across print, broadcast, multimedia and digital platforms.
All work done for Mustang News upholds the Cal Poly “Learn By Doing” philosophy. The 2013-14 staff is made up of approximately 60 students who are editors, reporters, multimedia journalists, producers, designers, photographers, social media directors and web developers. We also utilize three capstone classes: JOUR 352, 353 and 462 to provide supplemental content.
We operate under a digital-first mentality and post breaking news up to the minute. We also value long-form storytelling, alternative story-telling forms, enterprise pieces and in-depth, investigative reporting.
Our ultimate goal is to prepare students to work in the media industry.
